More than 115 intelligent junior high students from the schools of Cavalier, Drayton, Edmore, Grafton, Midway, Minto, North Border Pembina, North Border Walhalla, Park River Area, St. Thomas and Valley-Edinburg competed in the 4th Annual Walsh-Pembina Counties Jr. High Academic Olympics Competition on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 in the Grafton High School gymnasium. The event was sponsored by the Walsh-Pembina Administrators and coordinated by North Valley Career-Tech Center.
Students were asked questions related to the categories of English, Science, Math, Social Studies, Electives and Current Events and practiced the 4 Cs—critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity—super skills for the 21st Century! Students participated in a regular round with the top three teams advancing to a lightning round. Of the nineteen teams competing, the North Border-Pembina team, consisting of Madi Peters, Georgia Evenson, Lauren Carrier, Gabe Symington and Grayson Ohmann, coached by Mr. Jonathan Schiltz, came out on top, earning them the traveling trophy.
Other participants from North Border Pembina included Wilson Lyons, Katie Volk, Megan Misson, Sophie Wilson, and Ethan Lawler.
