Food For Thought

“Please forgive me if I have ever left a hole.”

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said,
"You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there.  A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.  Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us."

Winter Weather Will Be Here Eventually!

As the weather turns cold over the next few months, it's very important that students are prepared and dressed appropriately during any outdoor activities and on any trips in school vehicles.

NB Neche Elementary News

The elementary Christmas concert is will be on Thursday, September 15th at 7:30.  The Pembina SADD chapter will have a pie social prior to the concert starting at 6:30.  The last day of school before the Christmas break will be Thursday, December 2nd.  School will resume again on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Food Pantry Collection

The Neche Elementary School will serve as a drop off spot for any non-perishable food items being collected for the Pembina County Food Pantry this holiday season.  Items will be picked up and delivered on Wednesday, December 21st.  It is a time for giving, so let's all be generous and help out those less fortunate than ourselves over the Christmas holiday.

Winter weather

As winter and the cold weather that goes along with it has begun, please make sure your children are dressed appropriately when they head off for school.  Students should have hats, gloves, etc. for any bus travel as well as outside activities like recess and PE classes.

Food Drive

The North Border SADD organization is once again sponsoring a food drive for our local Pembina County Food Bank. We have sponsored this drive for a number of years and it gives the students the satisfaction that they have helped another family who may be less fortunate than them. The food drive is being held in both Pembina and Neche. I will be picking up and delivering the food next Wednesday, December 21 to the food bank in Cavalier. Counselor Corner

The "Big Give" project at North Border Walhalla school has impacted teh lives of many this
2011 Holiday Season raising over $800.00 for local families, for flood relief efforts in Minot and for families/children dealing with domestic violence. The Juniors at North Border raised these funds creatively involving the community and school to support and sustain their causes. the Juniors were creative, ingenious and hard working as they developed and implemented their plans. Congratulations to these Juniors for their hard work and compassion for others. As Dale Evans quoted, "Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it's Christmas."
